Bring Back the Bees is Back!

Want some free sunflower seeds to plant and help our bee friends?

Cheerios cereal is at it again this season. Their ‘Bring Back the Bees’ campaign is underway, and you can sign up to have up to 4 packages of sunflower seeds sent to your address to plant and help feed the bees in your area.

You may have heard that bees aren’t as plentiful over the past few years. With deteriorating bee colony health, bees everywhere have been disappearing by the millions. If this isn’t the case on your property, you’re doing something right…keep it up!

Watch a video on why the bees are disappearing here.

Bees need wildflower pollen and nectar to stay happy and healthy, so planting sunflowers, and a variety of wildflowers, is an easy way to help the bees.

Some fun facts on honey bees:

-The bee is the only insect that produces food eaten by humans
-A bee produces a teaspoon of honey  in her lifetime
-All worker bees are female
-The type of flower the bees take their nectar from determines the honey’s flavour
-To get more bees in your garden grow more colour
-Bees love blue and love cluster plants like lavender and rosemary
-1 in 3 bites of food we eat is made possible by bees and other pollinators, who spread the pollen that crops need to grow
-Bees don’t want to sting you because they die.
